What a month... [Jan. 6th, 2007|09:23 pm]
[Current Mood |hopefulhopeful]

Generally, the Christmas holidays are supposed to be fun filled and family oriented. I got the family part, but I didn't have too much fun. I had a laprascopy done on the 22nd followed by a colonoscopy on the 28th. The surgery went fine. I was pretty nervous, as I had never had surgery before. My first thought when I woke up in recovery was, "I'm still here!" I don't remember anything after transferring to the surgical table. They didn't even ask me to count down. (that I know of) Turns out I have fibroid tumors on the uterus. They grow and shrink with the menstrual cycle, so I'm not going to have one anymore. I'm going to take the pill continously and skip the 7 faky pills. As it turns out, when the pill was first devloped way back in the 1950's, it was developed by a Catholic researcher. He added the 7 fake pills in hopes that the Catholic church would accept this form of contraception because it would appear the the woman is having a normal cycle. There is no medical, scientific or health reason for the 7 fake pills. It's all because of society's perception and revulsion to new things. We now have a new drug called Seasonale that only has 4 periods per year, so we're slowly coming into the 21st century. Leave it to men and the church to control medicine. For those of you who have never had a colonscopy done, it's actually not that bad. You're sedated for the whole thing, so you don't remember anything. The worst part of the colonoscopy is drinking this really foul stuff that makes you completely empty out and you spend about 4 hours on the toilet. It's 4 liters of stuff that you have to drink. They make you drink 8 oz. every 10 minutes until it is gone or your turds are no longer turds and look like pale yellow water. Yeah, it's gross. Plus you can only have breakfast the day before and only clear liquids after 9am the day before. My procedure was not until 1430 the next day. I was so hungry!! Afterwards, my parents took me straight away to Zoup and I got a sandwich and drink. Then, an hour and a half later, we went to a regular sit down restaurant and I got steak, salad, a baked potato, appetizer etc. That finally took care of the hunger. With all of this, I had to be off of work for a bit. My general practitioner gave me a note that stated 1 month of lite duty. Well, work didn't have any lite duty positions available, so they told me that I had to go on short term disability. That was fine. They said I get $300 per week. Well, I got it for one week. My dr. didn't fill out the family medical leave paperwork the same that he filled out the lite duty slip, so I ended up "being able to go back to work" 1 week before surgery. So, I had to get a new note and I figured I would just get it from my surgeon, since I had to get a note from him anyway saying it was ok to come back to work. It was after that I found out what the original doc had written. So, naturally, the insurance company is giving me the run around. I think that my doctor got a call from the insurance people b/c his office called twice while I was at work Friday and I couldn't call back, as I didn't get off until 1830. The problem with him putting me ok to go back to work, is that I would have to do a physical agility test and drug test twice b/c I would be back at work and then off again for the surgery & colonoscopy, which would not have made sense. Unfortunately, I do not have an office job that I can sit at a desk all day or use the toilet when I need to. I think that they (the docs) forget that. And, work is probably not going to make me do two tests. Knowing my boss as I do, he would have had me stay off until after surgery anyway. I hope it's not about labs, as the last time I saw him was 1 month ago and they already told met hat my lab work was good. I just hate when they call and don't leave a message about what it is about. It makes me worry. That's what I do best is worry. I worry about stuff that I don't even need to worry about. Work, on the other hand was really great about the whole thing. They called periodically to see how I was doing and told me that if I needed rides or food or anything to let them know. (Needless to say, I've almost completely drained the savings accounts....) But, I am back to work! :)

Other things that have been weighing..... Sometimes I think that it would be nice to meet somebody, but other times, I like being able to come home and relax with nobody to bug me. I have my 3 bunnies, Oreo, Nutter Butter and Blizzard. Very good little guys. They like to cuddle under the electric blanket with me. Especially Nutter Butter. He's my little Netherland Dwarf bunny. He only weighs about 1 1/2 pounds and has very short ears compared to the other two. Oreo is a black and white dutch bunny. She is the queen of the cage, or to say the dominant bunny. The last one is Blizzard, who is an albino Florida White complete with the pink eyes. He's a bit more shy than the other two. When I first got him, he was so tiny, he had to put his front feet on the food dish to reach it. Now, he's the biggest bunny. He weighs about 3-4 pounds now. And, both boy bunnies are neutered. :)

Well, I'm going to go clean the bunny cage. Hope everybody had a great holiday. Santa was good to me by the way. And, it was nice to be pampered by mom for a few days. Nobody pampers like my mom! :)

Holy Ice Box, Batman!!!!! [Oct. 14th, 2006|01:58 am]
[Current Mood |accomplishedaccomplished]

Wow. What a cold snap! I had to work at a football game last night. I am so glad that I could at least go into my ambulance and turn on the heat. I would have hated to have been sitting in the East Stands. The wind was blowing quite fiercly out of the west. At any rate, very, very cold.

So, last week, I got up at zero dark 30 on my day off (430 hours) so a friend and I could drive to Flint, Michigan to get some much needed practical credits to renew our licenses. Turns out we could have left about an hour later, as my friend is quite the speed demon. Since it was so early, and a Saturday to boot, there were no cars on the roads and we did a 2 1/2 hour drive in about 1 1/2 hours including stopping for gas and going through a drive through for breakfast. A good time was had by all. I only had to be the patient once. It's certainly an odd feeling to be strapped to a board and be carried about 20 yards. You can't move or look around, as they did their job and totally immobilized me. All you can see is the sky. But, the instructor also let us out really early (It was the Michigan/Michigan State game day) b/c everybody wanted to watch the game. So, we were actually only there for about 6 hours. They also landed the Bird. (Read also: Life Flight out of U of M) Big, beautiful maize and blue helicopter. Class was supposed to go until 1700, but we actually made it home by about 1630. The funny part was that both of us had talked about going for so long, but when the day came, neither of us really wanted to go, but since we had already told the other that we would, we went!!! Oh, well. It was worth it. We also got fed and were given toys. I have a new flashing/constant light chem stick that operates on batteries.

Nothing new on the investigation on going at work. We all know who did it, but we don't have solid proof, so unless she tells somebody (who will tell on her) or somebody can get her to admit to what she did, it looks like nothing will happen. Kind of a bummer. I'd like to see her get fired for what she did. As it turns out, one of the drivers who used to live across from her said that she is quite violent. She used to live in a trailer and is the proverbial and stereotypical trailer trash.

Well, the wind is howling and it's getting time to play some games. I've cuddled with the bunnies, who all love the electric blanket, and done all the laundry today. So, 3 days off. :)

Bunny braces!? [Oct. 2nd, 2006|09:43 pm]
[Current Mood |optimisticoptimistic]

I had to take Blizzard to the vet. He was out and about hopping through the house, when I noticed that his right rear leg was angled funny and he wasn't really hopping on it, but kind of holding it up. So, I whisked him to the vet. They took x-rays (which, I can't believe that he actually held still for them to do that!) and it turns out that he is bow-legged. She showed me on the x-ray how both of his hind legs are bowed, but the right one is a bit more affected. The vet said that as long as he is getting about, eating and doing other normal bunny things, that he'll be fine since nothing is broken. She said that if he were a human, he'd have to wear braces on his legs. Wouldn't that be a sight!? Bunny braces!

I've started using Microsoft Money to manage my bank accounts. Since I can't remember when (we're talking well over 5 years), I have not recorded any checks that I have written, any deposits, or withdrawls, and yet, have not bounced a check. But, I decided I need to take control of my spending, as it's a bit out of control. According to Microsoft money, I should have about 5K in the two accounts in one year. We'll see. One is an account that I deposit $25 into that I can't get at, as the credit union is 2 hours away and I do not have an ATM card for this account. It is my Australia Fund. I've wanted to go there for a very long time. I had planned on seeing the Crocodile Hunter and was very sad that he was killed. I mean, I didn't expect the guy to live to be 100 or anything; I figured he would get killed by a poisonous snake or a croc. A stingray is just so bizarre. I have actually petted those things and they are quite docile.

I also finally got glass block windows for my basement. The windows that I had in there were sooooooo very bad and old. They were original install with the house. I even had the old coal chute. The new glass block looks so nice and it is actually cemented into the window openings, so it is way more secure. Yes, people can still break it and break in, but if they're going to break into a basement, I highly doubt that they're going to mess around with the glass block, especially when they can't see what's inside. There are so many more houses around me that still have the old windows and coal chute. Much more tempting than this.

Once again, tomorrow, I begin anew with the diet. I did really good last year b/c we had a weight loss contest at work, so I had somebody weighing me every week. It helps a lot to know that you're being monitored. It also helped that there was money at stake. I lost the most weight, so I won almost $300. I need to lose about 130 pounds now. I had lost about 45 last year, and of course, it is all back on. I've got to keep trying. I want to do it for me, and not for everybody else. My biggest problem is fast food. The job that I have is very easy to get into a rut of going to fast food drive thrus. I think that when you order your breakfast and lunch by number, that you need to make a change.

I get to work another football game on Thursday. I do all of the home games for Rogers Jr. High. So far, I've only seen them win one game in 3 years. I hope they do better! I'm not supposed to be partial, but it must be so hard for those kids to lose all the time like that! And, not only do they lose, but generally, they get creamed; 60-0 or something like that.

Take care everybody! Love everybody! Hug to Ceej, Cath, Danielle, and Rachel!

Mornings! [Oct. 1st, 2006|11:24 pm]
[Current Mood |happywhimsical]

I've been thinking for about a month about changing my schedule. I have never been a morning person and I just have so much trouble getting up so early. It doesn't matter how much sleep I get; it's just the getting up at oh dark hundred. I could get 4 hours of sleep and wake up at 9 and be good to go. I could get 10 hours and wake up at 6, and I just want to go back to bed. Especially in the winter. I was thinking of working 4-12 hour shifts starting at 1000.

The bunny rabbits have learned how to break out of their cage, so I had to install a new lock. The ring leader is Oreo. She will leap against the top corner of door until the door pops open. I woke up one morning to get ready for work and found the cage devoid of bunnies. I was very lucky that they didn't chew through any electrical cords or anything. I found Blizzard and Nutter Butter pretty quickly, but Oreo took awhile. She had gone upstairs and was hiding behind the nightstand. I did manage to make it to work on time, but only 1 minute to spare! I thought maybe that I hadn't secured the cage door properly until I was sitting in the living room and watched Oreo open the cage door. Clever little bunny, she is. They have bedrooms on the 2nd floor of the condo, which have wooden covers that you can lift off in order to clean. She figured out that they lift off and managed to move them enough to jump out and get on top of the entertainment center. Now, there are phone books on the covers! I should have named her Houdini. Now that Blizzard is an "it", she has gone back to being queen of the cage. Nutter Butter is just too sedate to care. He just wants to cuddle up to everybunny. :) Yes, it's a purposeful play on words!

I am also quite happy that Forever Knight is finally releasing the last part of the trilogy. I have been waiting forever for that! I believe that this weekend will be a Forever Knight weekend. :)

Well, off to play internet games!

Catch up [Sep. 30th, 2006|06:36 pm]
[Current Mood |sadbut, happy about bunnies!]

Wow. I can't believe that is has been nearly 7 months since I added anything. First off, I am done with chauffeur duty. I begged my boss to let somebody else do it, as I was so entirely sick of it. Actually, I was sick of it after the first week, but he is a nice guy and I figured that I would just wait until he got his license back, but that never happened, as he had a seizure after about 9 months without and has been having about 1 per month since. I am very happy to be back to my regular job. That 2 hour drive was just a killer. He gets along a lot better with the new guy driving him anyway. I always felt nervous around him and I think he was a bit nervous around me, as I am a girl. He seemed to guard what he said, as several times, he would apologize for swearing. Well, anyway, that's over.

My friend that contacted me came to visit. We went to Mackinac Island together for the weekend. Although he is a very nice guy, something struck me that he told me. He said that he liked hanging around me at DLI because things were always happening around me. I guess that was because I didn't stay in my room. He is quite a cerebral chap and tends to be more bookish than interested in going out and about. He had no desire to do anything on the Island except walk around it. He had no desire to see shops or other things. I finally made him rent a horse and buggy with me. After that, we went for a short walk, which was really annoying, as it was really hot and humid at the time. I think that I got a bit of sun poisoning, as I began to feel pretty sick later on. I took some pepto and had a small meal, which helped. He actually was looking for a book to read and stay in his hotel room. I guess that is why things were always happening around me and not him. Nothing can happen to you if you hide in your room away from people.

Now, the bunny situation. It turns out that the animal shelter was wrong about my dominant bunny. He is a girl. The bunny condo is finished. It is a 2 story, 2 bedroom. It has drop trays for their "Trix". I also added two litter boxes and a hay hanger. They have 2 food bowls and 2 water bottles, as well as lots of toys. I decided to adopt a third bunny from the Humane Society. They told me that this bunny, which is an albino Florida White, was a girl. Well, she was a boy. I took him back and got him neutered, as he was spraying everything and everybunny. :) They told me that my female was pregnant and I have been waiting, but it appears they were wrong on that account as well, as it has been over 1 month and no babies yet. She never got any bigger in her abdomen either. But, now I have 3 bunnies and they are all very spoiled.

I had a problem at work last week. Somebody left a note in my mailbox that said, "Whales are us called. Your big as pants are in Fatso." Actually, I thought that it said, "Males are us." Anyway, I threw the note in the trash at first until I went to my work van and found that somebody had taken garbage and thrown it all over the back of the van and messed up the clipboard, mapbook, and crumbled crackers in the driver's seat. One of the medics came with me and took pictures with her cell phone. She also helped me clean up the van. I reported it to the supervisor. I was very upset at the time, but I guess that if people are that cowardly that they can't confront me I really don't need to worry about them, as they're not worth worrying about. HR think they know who did it and have narrowed it down to a couple of people. If they do find out who did it, they will undoubtedly be fired. I hope that it was worth their job. I'm sure that they'll do it again and it will be easier, as several people are watching my mailbox. The people that are involved in the investigation are very upset. None of us can believe that we people working at Life that are that mean and cruel.

Life goes on... [Mar. 19th, 2006|09:51 pm]
[Current Mood |nostalgicnostalgic]

I don't enter as much as I probably should. I don't have as much going on in my life or more to the point, nothing that I think has journal importance. My day to day life does not change too much. Recently, an old friend contacted me and it was absolutely great to hear from him. I was rather surprised, actually. I haven't heard from him in over 15 years and it was quite nice. I'm worried about my friend Zone Trooper. To be a bit cliche', he seems to always get the thorns of the roses that are given to him. I hope that he can find solace in his beautiful kids and wife and his multitude of pets. He's going through a tough time right now and I hope he will be happily and gainfully employed in the near future.

I have bunny rabbits now. They're the cutest little critters. One of them is just an absolute cuddle bug and he'd prefer just to be held all day. He's really tiny, too. Only about 2 pounds or so. The other one likes to cuddle to an extent, but he's not quite as calm as the other one. He's much more agressive and tends to dominate the little guy. I keep them in the same cage most of the time, but a couple of days a week, I separate them into 2 cages so that the little one can get some peace and quiet. He seems to like his own cage better. My dad is going to build me a bunny condo and that will take care of any socializing problems that they're currently having. (the big bunny thinks the little bunny is his wife and they're both boys!)

Well, all for now. Most go to ebay. Take care out there in cyber world.

Life [Jan. 20th, 2006|11:16 pm]
[Current Mood |nostalgicnostalgic]

Life. What a strange and wonderous thing it is. We go through life hoping to make a difference, hoping to make an impact, but in the grand scheme of things, unless you're Bill Gates, Rich DeVos, Fred Meijer, etc.... Nothing we do really matters. People get so wrapped up in possessions and jobs and work and everything else but life, it's almost depressing to watch. I'm guilty of it too, but what is a person to do? Unless you're independently wealthy, you have to enter that rat race until the day you die and it will never really matter what you did. So, have fun. Go fly a kite. Go out to the lake. Play with your kids and hug your spouse.

"Life is a gift, as sweet as a ripe peach, as precious as a gilded jewel. I have never been able to understand the logic of willfully surrendering such a treasure. And what is there to gain? How dark can your existence be, when compared to an eternal void? Unless, of course, you have faith that there is something beyond. What do you see from where you stand? A bright light at the end of the tunnel? Is it a ray of hope, a glimmer of something better? Or will it burn you like the rising sun? Is that sound you're hearing the trumpeting of St. Peter's angels, or the screams of Memnoch's tortured souls? You can't answer that, can you? Because you will never know the answer until after the deed is done. And is your faith really that strong? I understand the need to move on. It is something that happens to us all. And your time has truly come. I also understand that, with the beauty of this life, there comes pain and despair. No one is immune. But consider what you have in your hands before you give it up. Don't trade a treasure for an empty box."

Lucien Lacroix

I'm currently assigned to one person for a patient and he seems to be giving up on life. His wife is very upset. He doesn't seem to be trying anymore. What do you do?

insurance [Nov. 19th, 2005|10:43 pm]
[Current Mood |cynicalcynical]

Still fighting with priority health. We hate them. If I had my way, I'd switch to a different carrier, but there's nothing I can do about it. It's a company thing and I'm way to low on the food chain to make those types of decisions. The priority health lady said she would call me on Monday. We'll see.....

Idiots I work with [Nov. 19th, 2005|10:39 pm]
[Current Mood |aggravatedaggravated]

OMG!!! I have always claimed that our dispatchers are a french fry short of a happy meal......

I also claim that they do not communicate in the communications center.

So, there I was doing a transfer from Grand Rapids, MI to Bay City, MI. It's about a 3 hour trip. Anyway, after I dropped the guy off, I went to Birch Run and had dinner. I then called our dispatchers and let them know that I had dropped the patient off and was en route back to GR. About 10 minutes later, they send me a page for an ASAP pick up out of our big hospital up here, Butterworth. I don't have a cell phone, and I am still about 2 1/2 hours out of radio range. So, I keep driving. About 5 minutes later, they page me wanting to know if I copied the page. Well, hell yeah, I copied it, but there ain't sh** I can do about it!!!!! I'm still 2 1/2 hours away, I thought to myself. They paged me again about 10 minutes later wanting me to call dispatch. Well, that would be great if I had a cell phone. I was not about to pull off the highway in the dark and go searching for a pay phone in the 15 degree windchill weather. IDIOTS!!!! I guess they finally figured out that I was out of the city, b/c when I got back in town and back to central, they did not say anything to me when I called down to let them know I got back okay. It's really nice to know that they were not concerned about my safety considering that in the 4 years that I have worked there I have NEVER not acknowledged a page. (Yes, it's alright to use a double negative in this instance!!) :) Thank goodness there wasn't a real problem!! I think that my company should invest in tracfones so that when they send us on long distance transfers, we can have a phone to use. I refuse to spend my minutes calling them b/c they can't read a computer screen that tells them exactly where I am.

Work, work, work! [Nov. 13th, 2005|03:42 pm]
[Current Mood |peacefulpeaceful]

Well, I was supposed to meet with the Aflac guy on Friday, but I picked up a couple of extra shifts at work. I had to go do standbys at a dog show and treat all the sick and injured. (there were 2) Dog show people are a bit intense. I don't know if any of you have ever been to one, but I have never seen the type of dog grooming that goes on there!! It's absolutely insane!! These people are completely obsessed!! On the bright side, I did get to play with some of the dogs. Some of the owners were very nice, while others were absolutely cold and rude. They would glare at you for just glancing at their prized pedigree. I don't know about the rest of you in cyberspace, but I'll stick to the pedigreed mutt. :)

I got up today with the intention of doing the laundry and other such home activities that I usually save for my days off, but the power went out because we're having a bit o' wind up here in Michigan. It finally came back on about an hour ago, so I'm trying to finish up so I can have everything done before I go to work tomorrow. I'm back to my chauffeuring duties tomorrow.

I'm still fighting with priority health over claims. I really do not like priority health. They always deny claims assuming that the policy holder will just pay not knowing that priority is supposed to pay. I've had one that I've been working on for over one year now.
